The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) of the Guyana Police Force has concluded its investigation into allegations that an Inspector and three other officers stole $4 million from a Chinese businessman during a stop-and-search in Georgetown.

Initially placed under close arrest on August 14, the four ranks are now under open arrest but remain confined to the Tactical Services Unit. The case file will be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on August 20 for legal advice.
The incident reportedly occurred when the businessman, leaving a Church Street casino, was stopped by an anti-terrorism patrol. Officers allegedly confiscated $4 million from him after discovering over $5 million in cash. The businessman claimed he offered the officers $1.5 million to let him go, but they refused.
CCTV footage and a confession from one officer were reviewed during the investigation. The names of the implicated officers have not been released, but authorities are treating the matter with urgency to maintain public confidence.
