News

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has announced that the Government has now processed a total of 150,963 cash grants, with more than 140,000 of those payments made directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, as the nationwide rollout continues to gather pace.

Providing an update on the exercise, Dr. Singh said direct deposits had already been completed for 48,858 central government employees whose salary information was already in the system. Through the self-registration portal at cashgrant.gov.gy, an additional 126,011 persons have registered, with direct transfers already processed for 91,688 of them — bringing the total number of persons who have had the grant deposited directly into their bank accounts to 140,546.

The Finance Minister also disclosed that the Government has begun a special rollout for hinterland communities, particularly Region Nine, where many residents lack easy access to banking facilities. Teams were deployed to assist residents with registration, including those without bank accounts, resulting in 10,417 payments already processed for Region Nine residents — some via direct deposit and others by cheque. Combined with the direct deposit figures, this brings the overall total of processed grants to 150,963.

Dr. Singh described the exercise as a major success, saying the Government had processed a very large number of beneficiaries smoothly and efficiently. He urged persons who have not yet completed their registration to do so via the online platform at cashgrant.gov.gy, stressing that self-registration remains the easiest and fastest way to receive the grant without leaving home.

Looking ahead, the Minister announced that the special registration exercise conducted in Region Nine will be extended to all other hinterland regions in recognition of the unique challenges faced by residents in those areas. The Government will also soon launch a targeted initiative to assist shut-ins — including elderly and incapacitated persons unable to leave their homes — drawing on information from the old age pension and National Insurance Scheme databases.

Help desks are additionally set to be established at several locations across the country to support persons who were unable to complete the online registration process on their own, with those initiatives expected to begin later this week.
