Patient Appeals for Help Amid Discharge from Georgetown Public Hospital

Danielle, a patient at Georgetown Public Hospital, has made a heartfelt appeal for assistance after being informed that she must leave the hospital due to her inability to afford ongoing dialysis treatment. In a video statement, she expressed her distress over the situation, revealing that hospital staff have insisted on her discharge despite her serious medical condition.

“I cannot afford dialysis, and they want me to leave the hospital and go home,” Danielle stated. She explained that she will no longer receive free dialysis or medication from the hospital, leaving her in a precarious situation. “For the past two days, they have been tormenting me, insisting that I leave the hospital,” she added.

With no source of income due to her illness, Danielle described the challenge of surviving on the government assistance of $600,000. “Nobody from the government has reached out to me, and neither has my aunt,” she lamented, noting that emails seeking help have gone unanswered.

Danielle, who has a rare medical condition affecting her heart, expressed her exhaustion and desperation. “Honestly, I am tired. I don’t know what else to do,” she said, calling for intervention from the Ministry of Health or the government of Guyana.

Her plea highlights the urgent need for support and resources for patients facing similar challenges in accessing essential medical care. As Danielle continues to seek assistance, her story raises awareness of the struggles faced by many in the healthcare system.
