PNC Leader Aubrey Norton Refuses to Condemn David Hinds for Controversial Remarks

Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton has stated that neither he nor the PNC-led A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) will condemn David Hinds of the Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) for his recent racist and derogatory comments. Hinds has made inflammatory remarks, including claims that PNC member Daniel Seeram was promoted solely due to his ethnicity.

During a press conference, Norton responded to questions about Hinds’ comments, asserting, “We are not answerable for the WPA.” He emphasized that while Hinds is a passionate and intelligent individual, the PNC/APNU will not criticize him for expressing his views.

Hinds has a history of controversial statements, including derogatory terms for Afro-Guyanese and past insults aimed at PNC officials. Norton acknowledged that Hinds must choose his words carefully but maintained that he has a right to express his opinions.

This stance follows previous incidents where Norton did not condemn other WPA members for inflammatory remarks, instead framing them as free speech. Despite this, the PNC claims it aims to improve race relations in Guyana, highlighting it as a national priority on their website.
