A police constable has sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized following a collision with a vehicle on Palmyra Public Road on Tuesday morning.

Reports indicate that around 8:00 AM, a motor vehicle, identified as PKK 1010, driven by 35-year-old Ashton Seegobin, was traveling west along the southern lane of Palmyra Public Road. As Seegobin turned onto Percy Smith Street, he was approached unexpectedly by a motorcycle, MR 1, operated by Constable Stefon Chinapen, who was wearing a safety helmet. In his attempt to overtake Seegobin’s vehicle, Chinapen lost control and collided with the rear side of Seegobin’s car.

The situation worsened when Chinapen’s motorcycle collided head-on with another vehicle, PAE 9749, driven by 20-year-old Yashmine Mannu, who was traveling east in the opposite lane. The impact resulted in Mannu losing control of her vehicle, which subsequently struck a utility pole located on the northern grass parapet.

Following the collision, Chinapen was thrown onto the road, suffering injuries to various parts of his body. Public-spirited citizens quickly rushed him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Upon arrival, he received medical treatment and is reported to be in stable but serious condition.

Mannu and her passenger were also assisted by bystanders and taken to the same hospital. Both were treated and subsequently admitted for observation following examinations by medical staff.

Breathalyzer tests conducted on both drivers returned negative results, indicating that neither was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this serious collision is ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause. Further updates will be provided as the case develops.
