Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating an alleged armed robbery that took place on Saturday around 3:03 PM on Chappel Street, between Durban and Hadfield Streets. The target was a Chinese national who was driving a minibus at the time of the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was driving along Chappel Street when a black Toyota Auris blocked his path. Two motorcycles then approached, and the victim was allegedly held at gunpoint and relieved of a bag before the suspects fled the scene.
Using footage from Smart City surveillance cameras, police tracked the suspects and the vehicles involved in the robbery. The motorcycles were subsequently spotted on James Street, Albouystown, where the suspects reportedly transferred to the black Toyota Auris, which then continued into Bel Air, Georgetown.
Police later intercepted the motor vehicle on Eping Avenue, Bel Air. During the operation, one suspect, a 22-year-old male from ‘E’ Field, Sophia, allegedly drew a firearm from his waist and pointed it at a police officer. In response, the officer discharged a round, injuring the suspect in his left thigh. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
Additionally, four other suspects—an 18-year-old male from Cooper Street, Albouystown; a 19-year-old male from Durban and Smyth Streets; a 26-year-old mason from Mango Lane, East Ruimveldt; and a 19-year-old male from Middle Road, La Penitence—were arrested and taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station, where they remain in custody.
Authorities recovered a Glock 17 pistol along with three 9mm rounds of ammunition, which have been lodged as evidence. The motor car and motorcycles used in the alleged robbery are also being held for investigation.
Efforts are ongoing to contact the victim as police continue their investigation into the incident.
