Law enforcement officers on the Essequibo Coast are investigating an alleged attempted murder following an incident today that left a 59-year-old housewife hospitalized with burn injuries.

According to preliminary reports from the Guyana Police Force, the incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at a residence in Hampton Court.
Investigators stated that the 59-year-old housewife was at home when she was allegedly set on fire during a domestic altercation involving her 68-year-old husband, who works as a security guard.
A nearby resident, alerted by the victim’s screams, rushed to the property and managed to extinguish the flames before further catastrophic harm could occur.
Medical Status and Arrest
Emergency assistance was sought, and the injured woman was transported to the Lima Regional Hospital. Medical staff admitted her for treatment of burns about her body, and hospital officials currently list her medical condition as stable.
The 68-year-old suspect was apprehended by police following the incident and remains in custody as detectives continue their inquiries.
