Police Investigate Alleged Wounding in Berbice; Suspect Found Dead

The News Desk Reports | Police in the Springlands Station District are investigating a case of alleged wounding that occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, around 1:30 p.m. at Lot 667, No. 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice.

The victim, 47-year-old Olive Thompson, a ten-day worker residing at the same address, reportedly fled to a neighbor’s yard with visible injuries around 1:40 p.m. She informed authorities that she had a misunderstanding with her husband, Patrick Mahendra Singh, which escalated into an argument. During the altercation, he allegedly stabbed her with a knife. It was also reported that Singh possessed a bottle containing a poisonous substance, which he allegedly consumed before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.

Thompson was promptly taken to No. 75 Regional Hospital, where she was admitted in serious condition. Efforts by police to locate Singh were initially unsuccessful.

The following day, on February 23, 2026, around 10:45 a.m., the lifeless body of Patrick Mahendra Singh, 46, a cane harvester, was discovered at the same address. Investigations suggest he ingested a poisonous substance, identified as Gramoxone, the day prior.

Police later visited Thompson at the No. 75 Regional Hospital, where she was in the Intensive Care Unit and reported to have been responsive to treatment, with her condition now deemed stable.
