A tragic incident has left the Corentyne community in shock following the death of 16-year-old Justin Smith on Sunday night. While his family believes he was murdered, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation amid conflicting accounts surrounding the circumstances of his death.

According to police reports, eyewitness statements suggest that Smith may have been involved in a motorcycle accident. However, upon arrival at the hospital, he was found with multiple wounds on his body and was pronounced dead shortly after. His mother, Dhanraji Seenauth, expressed her belief that her son’s injuries were not consistent with an accident, pointing out that some appeared to be chop wounds.

“All he foot and suh get chop, all he hand and suh, and like them lash he on he head and he fall on he bike,” Seenauth stated tearfully. She noted that his motorcycle showed no signs of damage typical of an accident. “It is not an accident… when he collapse he fall on it and it get bruise up, but was no accident,” she emphasized, calling for a full investigation.

Seenauth mentioned that her son had experienced prior conflicts with some villagers, whom she suspects may have harbored jealousy towards him. Describing Justin as loving and caring, she is determined to seek justice for her son.

The local Police Commander confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway. A post-mortem examination is expected to shed light on the nature of Smith’s injuries and determine whether they align with the claims of an accident or foul play.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life, hoping for answers and accountability in this tragic case.
