Authorities are investigating a tragic traffic accident that occurred late Sunday night, January 25, 2026, around 11:30 PM on the Diamond New Interlink Road. The incident involved a minibus and a motor car, resulting in the death of Jason Bhojedat, a 33-year-old driver from Annandale, East Coast Demerara, and leaving injuries to a 31-year-old passenger from Diamond New Housing Scheme.

Preliminary investigations reveal that motor car PKK 6633 was traveling south in the eastern lane at a high speed behind minibus BAK 8702. An attempt to overtake the minibus led to a collision with its right rear, causing the minibus to veer off course.
The impact was severe, causing the minibus to collide with a light pole, overturn multiple times, and ultimately come to rest on the western parapet. Bhojedat was thrown from the vehicle and found unconscious on the roadway. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. His body has since been taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The injured passenger and the driver of the motor car were transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged. The driver of the motor car, a 28-year-old laborer from Diamond New Housing Scheme, is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. Due to injuries to his mouth that required stitches, a breathalyzer test was not conducted.
Police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
