Police in Region 7 are investigating the homicide of 55-year-old gold miner John José Marciano, originally from One Mile, Wismar, Linden. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at a mining camp located at 14 Miles Issano, along the Middle Mazaruni River.
According to a police statement, Marciano was found slumped on the ground at his camp, suffering from multiple chop wounds. A bloodied cutlass was discovered nearby, suggesting the violent nature of the attack.
Authorities have taken a 35-year-old female cook from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, into custody to assist with the ongoing investigation. In a related development, police arrested a 19-year-old gold miner from Tapakuma, Essequibo Coast, in Anna Regina on Sunday based on information received regarding the murder.
Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigators work to unravel the circumstances surrounding Marciano’s death. The police are urging anyone with additional information about the case to come forward.
