Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating the alleged murder of 25-year-old William Jaris from Greenwich Park, East Bank Essequibo. The suspect, 33-year-old Davie Riveia, a laborer from Ruby Back Dam, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Reports indicate that Jaris and Riveia were known to each other and had an argument at a shop near Ruby Bridge, which escalated into a physical altercation. Witnesses reported seeing Riveia with a knife during the fight, after which blood was observed oozing from Jaris’s body.
Following the incident, Riveia fled the scene on a bicycle, while Jaris collapsed. He was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Persaud. An examination of the body revealed three stab wounds: one to the right side of the jaw, one to the chest, and one to the left upper arm.
The body has been transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.
Riveia was later arrested at his home and taken to Parika Police Station. He had an injury above his left eye and was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital for treatment. Due to the nature of his injury, he was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and admitted under guard.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
