Police in Corentyne are investigating a disturbing incident reported by Helen Kashi, a 54-year-old self-employed woman from No. 19 Village (Reserve), Berbice. The incident occurred on the evening of September 2, 2025, around 7:00 PM.

Kashi reported that while visiting her mother’s residence, she was confronted by a man named Rameshwar Ramdat, also known as “Kevin,” who was accompanied by others dressed in the colors of a political party engaged in celebratory activities. During this encounter, Ramdat allegedly verbally abused Kashi for her support of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) political party and threatened to burn her home.

In light of these threats, Kashi chose to spend the night at her mother’s home. Upon returning to her residence at approximately 7:00 AM the following day, she discovered that her property had been ransacked. Personal belongings were strewn outside, and she noticed that a gold chain valued at $22,000 and cash amounting to $23,000 were missing. Additionally, a makeshift table attached to the eastern wall of her home had been scorched.

Police responded promptly to Kashi’s report, taking her statement and launching an investigation. Ramdat, the suspect, aged 28, has been arrested and is currently in custody, assisting authorities with their inquiries. Once the investigation is complete, an investigative file will be compiled and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The police are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into this troubling case.
