Police in Regional Division 3 are investigating an alleged murder that occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM at a shop in La Parafaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara. The incident resulted in the death of 20-year-old Roberto Grant, also known as “Kayan,” an unemployed resident of the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 41-year-old suspect, a construction worker from Grove, East Bank Essequibo, was at the location when a confrontation erupted between him and Grant. During the altercation, both men reportedly armed themselves with objects and inflicted injuries on each other.
Following the incident, the suspect visited the La Parafaite Harmonie Police Station to report the altercation. Police ranks responded by visiting the scene and subsequently transported both injured individuals to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, Grant succumbed to his injuries.
A broken piece of glass bottle was recovered from the scene and lodged as evidence. Authorities have also noted the presence of CCTV cameras in the area, which will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
The suspect was treated for his injuries at the hospital and remains in police custody while assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, the body of Roberto Grant is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
