Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are investigating an incident that resulted in the death of 77-year-old Mohadai Sankar, a pensioner visiting from the United States. The attack occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, around 7:00 AM in Success, East Coast Demerara, and also left a 25-year-old woman hospitalized.

Preliminary reports indicate that Sankar, who was staying at her local residence, was attacked by a swarm of bees believed to have emerged from the roof of a neighboring house. Along with the 25-year-old woman and two other individuals, Sankar sustained multiple bee stings during the incident.
All victims were taken to medical facilities for treatment. Sankar was transported to Enmore Regional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at approximately 6:45 PM. The 25-year-old woman, meanwhile, was transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where her condition is currently reported as stable.
Sankar’s body has been taken to Jerricks Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Authorities visited the scene, and personnel from the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute were called in to bring the situation under control.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
