Police have confirmed that Stacy Walton, a 22-year-old businesswoman from Alexander Street, New Amsterdam, was consuming alcohol prior to a fatal accident early Friday morning. The incident occurred around 1:50 AM along the No. 7 Public Road, East Berbice.

Walton was driving a motor car (license plate #PAG 2279), owned by Alfred De Jonge, when she reportedly lost control of the vehicle. It veered off the road and plunged into a trench on the southern side.
Investigators noted that Walton had been seen drinking earlier in the evening before getting behind the wheel. At the time of the crash, she was traveling west along the southern lane and was wearing her seatbelt.
Local residents discovered the partially submerged vehicle and quickly rescued Walton, who was found unconscious. She was transported to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has been taken to the hospital mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are currently conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
