Police Seize Firearms and Ammunition in Operations on East Coast Demerara

Two separate police operations conducted in Good Hope and Plaisance on the East Coast of Demerara on Thursday resulted in the seizure of firearms and ammunition.

According to police reports, the first operation took place around 19:30 hrs in Plaisance. Officers on motorcycle patrol responded to a supermarket where they noticed a security guard with what appeared to be a firearm tucked into the waistband of his pants. Upon approaching and questioning the individual, officers discovered a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing three live 9mm rounds. The 37-year-old security guard from South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, could not provide a firearm license or precept. He was subsequently escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were processed and lodged for further investigation. The suspect remains in custody as inquiries continue.

In the second operation, police conducted a search at a supermarket in Good Hope, where they found a 24-year-old security guard from Lusignan in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun and five live 12-gauge cartridges. Similar to the previous case, the individual was unable to produce a firearm license or precept. He was arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station for processing, with the firearm and ammunition also lodged pending investigation.

Authorities have stated that investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
