Police Seize Firearms and Ammunition in Two Separate Incidents in Region Eight

News

Police ranks made significant seizures of firearms and ammunition during two distinct incidents in Chenapou, Region Eight, and along the Linden to Mabura Road over the weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, officers were involved in a chase along the Linden to Mabura Road, targeting two individuals on a motorbike. During the pursuit, the pillion rider leaped off the moving motorcycle and discarded a camouflage jacket he had been wearing before fleeing into dense vegetation. Officers retrieved the tossed jacket, which, upon examination, revealed a suspected .38 revolver and two live rounds of ammunition tucked within one of its pockets.

The firearm and ammunition were taken to the Wismar Police Station for safe keeping as investigations continue. Authorities are working to locate and apprehend the suspects involved in this incident.

In a separate incident on Monday afternoon in Chenapou, police observed two men carrying shotguns in a manner that suggested an attempt to conceal them. When they attempted to flee, they were apprehended by police ranks. An 18-year-old male farmer from Bashville Village was found with a 16-gauge shotgun, while a 54-year-old male farmer from the same location was in possession of a 20-gauge shotgun.

A subsequent search of both individuals resulted in the discovery of five cartridges with the older suspect and four cartridges with the younger one. When questioned, both men admitted they did not possess firearm licenses.

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Kato Police Station, where they remain in custody, with the firearms and ammunition lodged pending further investigations. Ongoing efforts are focused on thoroughly investigating both incidents.
