Policeman Airlifted to Georgetown After ATV Crash

Kaieteur News Reports : A policeman was air-dashed to Georgetown on Monday following a serious accident involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a truck belonging to Guyana Manganese Inc. (GMI). The incident occurred around noon near the company’s old laterite pit, resulting in severe injuries to the officer.

Reports indicate that the policeman, based in Baramita, was traveling to Port Kaituma on the ATV with another police rank when the crash occurred. While the second officer sustained only minor injuries, the injured policeman suffered significant trauma.

Cellphone footage captured by bystanders showed citizens rushing to assist the officer, who was found lying face down on the road, seemingly unconscious and with visible injuries, including a bloody face and lost teeth.

After receiving initial treatment at Port Kaituma Hospital, the officer was later medevacked to Georgetown, where he is currently under care at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in remote areas and raises concerns about road safety in the region.
