The ongoing political discourse in Guyana has intensified as the WIN Party, along with its leader, faces accusations of opportunism regarding government cash grants. Eddy Layne, the Director of Public Information for Guyana, has publicly criticized the WIN Party’s attempts to position itself as a pressure force on the current government.

In a recent statement, Layne condemned the WIN Party for what he described as “cheap, bottom-tier political hustling.” He emphasized that the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has consistently honored its commitments to the citizens of Guyana. Layne quoted President Ali, who asserted that the government is fully aware of its responsibilities concerning cash grants, incentives, and subsidies, and is committed to delivering them efficiently.
“Whether it’s cash grants, incentives, subsidies — you don’t need to remind us. We know what our commitments are, and we are going to deliver on every one of them — faster, better, greater,” President Ali recently declared.
Layne’s statement shed light on the government’s plans for the holiday season, stating that Guyanese can expect a bright Christmas. He indicated that cash grants, long promised and anticipated, are part of a broader strategy for economic empowerment and should not be reduced to mere political theater by the WIN Party.
He urged the opposition to cease what he views as theatrics aimed at profiting from government actions already in motion. “Stop trying to get mileage out of a done deal,” Layne said.
Additionally, in a pointed remark, he reminded the leader of the WIN Party of ongoing legal issues, suggesting that they prioritize accountability over political maneuvering.
As the political landscape evolves, many in Guyana will be watching closely to see how these dynamics impact upcoming elections and the delivery of essential services to the populace.
