Polling stations across the country closed at exactly 6 p.m. this evening, marking the end of voting in this year’s elections. As the deadline approached, several voters were seen rushing into polling locations to cast their ballots.

Reports indicate a lower-than-expected turnout, with long lines observed early in the morning dwindling to a trickle by midday. Despite having over 750,000 registered voters on the list, many polling stations experienced a significant decline in voter participation as the day progressed.
Throughout the day, some voters reported confusion regarding changes to their traditional voting locations. To assist, several political parties set up help lines to guide citizens to their new polling places.
Candidates and voters generally described the electoral process as smooth, though there were initial concerns about the functionality of voting compartments, and at least two polling stations opened later than scheduled.
With the polls now closed, many locations have begun counting votes. Statements of Poll are being posted outside polling stations, and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is expected to upload the results to their website.
However, reports from Linden indicated a power outage occurred shortly after polls closed, raising concerns about the finalization of vote counting.
GECOM has announced that a declaration of results is anticipated by Thursday, keeping the public on alert for the outcome of the elections.
