Porter Arrested with Narcotics at Sherima Police Checkpoint

A 30-year-old porter was arrested on Sunday after police discovered narcotics concealed in Milo and Nestum tins at the Sherima Police Checkpoint.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the individual was intercepted at approximately 10:09 AM while traveling in a motor lorry bound for Puruni Landing. During the search of the vehicle, officers found a shopping bag hidden in the passenger-side storage compartment.

Inside the bag were a Milo tin and a Nestum tin, each containing transparent plastic bags filled with a whitish, rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine. Additionally, a quantity of pills suspected to be ecstasy was also located.

The suspect, from Diamond Housing Scheme on the East Bank Demerara, was arrested and taken to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected narcotics. The total weight of the substances was measured at 56 grams for the suspected cocaine, while the ecstasy pills weighed 98.91 grams before being logged as evidence.

The porter remains in police custody as investigations continue into the matter.
