PPP/C Government Awards $1.5B Contract for B-Field Sophia Access Road Reconstruction

The PPP/C Government has awarded a $1.5 billion contract for the reconstruction and widening of the B-Field Sophia Access Road. Ministers Deodat Indar and Kwame McCoy recently met with local residents to discuss the details of the project.

During the engagement, residents were informed that the initiative will involve a comprehensive reconstruction of the existing roadway, featuring an asphaltic concrete finish. Key aspects of the project include:

Widening and resurfacing sections of the road to enhance traffic flow

Construction of a PVC sheet pile retaining wall alongside the drainage canal

Upgrading bridges and culverts to improve structural capacity and resilience

Relocation of utilities

Installation of road safety features

Minister Indar emphasized the government’s commitment to ongoing consultations with residents to minimize inconveniences during the construction process. He noted that the reconstruction will significantly enhance traffic flow for commuters traveling between South and East Georgetown.

The contract has been awarded to Erin Lall Civil Engineering Works, which has a timeline of one year to complete the project. This initiative is a part of the government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and support community development.
