PPP/C Promises Salary Increases and Tax Reforms for Public Servants

  • News

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) and Vice President of Guyana, pledged on Thursday that all public servants will receive salary increases and enhanced benefits if the party is re-elected in the upcoming September 1, 2025 elections.

During his weekly press conference, Jagdeo outlined plans for changes to the taxation system, aiming to ensure that citizens retain more of their earnings. He also announced that pensioners, individuals receiving public assistance, government part-time workers, and Community Service Officers (CSOs) will see increases in their financial support.

“So clearly in the public sector, you’re going to have massive increases in earnings for people,” Jagdeo stated.

The Vice President emphasized that the private sector would also benefit from these initiatives. Specific industries, including mining, fishing, forestry, and agriculture, will receive direct support from the government.

Jagdeo remarked, “The taxation system would evolve in such a way that if you make more money, you are going to keep more money.”

In addition to these financial commitments, the PPP/C government plans to implement cost-reduction measures. One significant initiative is the removal of bridge tolls, which will take effect on August 1. The government also aims to reduce electricity costs and lower expenses related to hinterland freight and travel.

As the PPP/C prepares for the upcoming elections, these promises reflect their focus on improving the economic conditions for all Guyanese citizens.
