Kaieteur News Reports | Yurajwatie Hussain, the pregnant woman who survived a tragic accident along the Good Hope Public Road on Saturday, has received reassuring news that her unborn baby is unharmed. The crash claimed the life of her husband, Julius Haniff, a 44-year-old constable attached to the Mayor and Town Council in New Amsterdam.

The couple was traveling in motor vehicle PAG 9310 when the accident occurred, reportedly due to slippery road conditions caused by rain. Haniff lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a concrete utility pole.
Hussain, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, spoke to Kaieteur News on Sunday, sharing details of the incident. Medical checks, including ultrasounds, confirmed that her baby is doing well, although she is experiencing pain in her ribs and beneath her right breast. An x-ray also indicated no internal damage.
The couple had left New Amsterdam shortly before midnight on Thursday to pick up goods from Georgetown. Hussain recalled that they decided to rest in the car near the Mahaica bridge, falling asleep for about four hours. They resumed their journey around 3:25 a.m. on Friday.
“Not far from the bridge, I felt like I was hoisted up and then slammed down. It was like I got knocked out, and when I came to, I heard a loud ‘blam’. When I looked, the utility post was in the car, and blood was coming from his nose,” she recounted tearfully.
Emergency responders removed them from the wreckage and rushed them to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, Haniff succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Reports indicated that his skull was cracked due to the impact.
Hussain described how medical personnel prioritized her husband’s condition upon their arrival at the hospital. Despite their attempts to transfer him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, delays occurred, allegedly due to ambulance issues, as he was reportedly moved in and out of the ambulance multiple times.
The couple, who had been together for three years, shared a son and were eagerly awaiting the birth of their next child. Hussain expressed her sorrow over the loss of her husband and the impact of the tragic accident on their family.
