In a strong denunciation of businessman Azruddin Mohamed, President Dr. Irfaan Ali declared on Friday night that Mohamed is unfit to lead Guyana, describing him as a “bluff” whose failed business ventures are built on bribery and corruption.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the News Room, President Ali emphasized that Azruddin’s track record demonstrates a lack of capability to run any organization effectively, let alone the country. He urged the public not to be misled by Mohamed’s political ambitions, especially with national elections just two days away.
“Azruddin Mohamed is a bluff. He has demonstrated that he is incapable of running anything. He is in this for himself,” President Ali stated, highlighting the potential risks of entrusting national leadership to someone with a discredited business background.
The president pointed to U.S. Treasury sanctions imposed on Azruddin and his family in June 2024, which were linked to allegations of gold smuggling and corruption. The sanctions targeted several of their companies, including Mohamed’s Enterprise and Hadi’s World, raising concerns about the impact of such scrutiny on Guyana’s international reputation.
“His actions have triggered U.S. scrutiny and jeopardized our reputation,” President Ali warned. “He puts our sovereignty at risk, he puts our financial system at risk, and he puts our people at risk. We cannot take that risk.”
Describing Azruddin as duplicitous and self-serving, President Ali criticized his inconsistent responses to questions, claiming that he shows little regard for the welfare of the nation.
As the election approaches, President Ali urged voters to consider the leadership needed for the country’s future. “Our electorate understands the seriousness of this election, the challenges we face as a country, and will vote on the merit of what we’ve delivered,” he affirmed.
