President Ali on Azruddin Mohamed’s Video: I will not address the personal insults

In a statement to News Room regarding a video released by businessman Azruddin Mohamed, President Irfaan Ali characterized the footage as further evidence of Mohamed’s “duplicity and dishonesty.”

“My number is no secret—it’s the same one I’ve used throughout my time in government,” President Ali stated. “Thousands of Guyanese contact me regularly on various matters, so the fact that he has my number is not unusual.”

On the critical issue of the vehicle’s value, President Ali reiterated:
“At no point did Azruddin Mohamed provide me with the correct invoice indicating a value of US$695,000, which we now know is the accurate cost of the vehicle. Instead, he has falsely claimed that the vehicle was worth US$75,000—the same figure he presented to the Guyana Revenue Authority.”

The President added that authorities are now aware of several financial transactions confirming that the higher amount was indeed paid.

“This raises the central question: Did he lie about the declared purchase price of the vehicle? Based on facts confirmed by U.S. authorities, the answer is yes. He submitted a falsified invoice to the GRA.”

He continued, “At no time did he present the true and correct value of the vehicle—neither to me nor to the GRA. He continues to assert the value is US$75,000, despite clear evidence to the contrary.”

When asked about personal attacks made by Mohamed, President Ali chose not to engage.
“I will not address the personal insults—they reveal more about his character than mine.”
