President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali engaged in a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on January 6, 2026, addressing recent developments in Venezuela along with other significant issues affecting the Western Hemisphere.

In a statement attributed to Foreign Secretary Mr. Robert M. Persaud, President Ali praised the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Rubio for their commitment to promoting freedom, democracy, and regional security.
During their discussion, President Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s dedication to collaborating with the United States, highlighting the importance of the U.S. as a strategic security ally in the region. He emphasized Guyana’s resolve to tackle transnational crime, including drug and gold smuggling, as well as narco-terrorism.
Additionally, the President reiterated his administration’s respect for the rule of law, emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections and the promotion of democratic norms. He also advocated for peace and prosperity for all citizens in the region.
