President Irfaan Ali Urges Compliance from Gold Miners on Declarations

News

President Irfaan Ali has mandated immediate action to ensure that all gold miners fully declare their gold production for 2025. In a statement from the Office of the President, it was emphasized that all registered dredges with no declarations will face de-registration, and steps will be taken to identify and prosecute foreign miners operating illegally in Guyana.

These directives were discussed during a meeting hosted by the President with officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC). It was noted that some Brazilian miners have reported very low or no gold declarations. As a result, these miners have been given 24 hours to comply with Guyanese laws and declare their gold to the Guyana Gold Board.

Furthermore, the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) will collaborate with the Ministry of Natural Resources to ensure that all categories of miners operating in Guyana are registered and maintain a local bank account.

GGDMA President Ronaldo Alphonso urged the mining community to be compliant and encouraged them to sell their gold through legitimate channels to ensure the sustainability of the mining sector for future generations.

Additionally, the GGMC has called on miners and stakeholders, including traders, to update their personal records at the Commission’s office. This includes providing accurate details such as mailing addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, and banking information.

The GGMC has set a deadline of January 31, 2026, for these updates, warning that failure to comply will result in the suspension of the relevant licenses and permits.
