In a sunrise political broadcast from State House on Tuesday, President Irfaan Ali highlighted his government’s achievements over the past five years while urging voters to prioritize national security in the upcoming elections.

During the 15-minute address, President Ali emphasized the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relations, particularly with the United States. He specifically referenced the candidacy of billionaire businessman Azruddin Mohamed, who is currently sanctioned by the US for alleged tax evasion and gold under-declaration. The President warned that jeopardizing the relationship with the US could pose serious risks to Guyana’s security.
“We must understand that one of our greatest threats is Venezuela. Fighting this threat requires diplomacy and partnership, notably with the United States,” Ali stated. He cautioned that individuals prioritizing their self-interests over national safety could endanger the entire country.
As Guyanese prepare to vote on September 1, President Ali outlined the clear choices facing the electorate. “Our safety, our stability, our transformation are fragile but can be strong if we consistently make the right decisions for our country, families, and community,” he said.
The President assured citizens of his government’s commitment to investing in security measures and collaborating with international partners to secure Guyana’s borders. He framed the upcoming elections as a crucial moment for leadership that understands the nation’s needs.
“A viable country is not about empty promises; it’s about strong policies, good leadership, and a clear understanding of what is required to make our country great,” he declared.
He also criticized the APNU (A Partnership for National Unity) and the AFC (Alliance For Change) for their tenure in government, claiming they failed to fulfill their promises and left the nation in a worse position. He challenged the opposing parties to present concrete plans for the future instead of reverting to empty promises.
As the elections approach, political parties will submit their candidate lists on nomination day, July 14, 2025. President Ali’s message underscores the critical issues at stake as the nation heads to the polls.
