In a dramatic statement following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife in Caracas, President Donald Trump declared that the United States will assume control of Venezuela until a “proper transition” can occur. The president made this announcement during an ongoing press conference in Florida.

“We’re going to run the country,” Trump asserted, emphasizing the need for a careful and thoughtful approach to transitioning power.
His comments reflect a commitment to ensuring that a new leadership structure is established, free from the issues that have plagued Venezuela for years. “So, we don’t want to be involved with having somebody else get in, and we have the same situation that we had for the last long period of years,” Trump explained.
The president stressed the values of peace, liberty, and justice for the Venezuelan people, many of whom currently reside in the United States and hope to return to their homeland. “We can’t take a chance that somebody else takes over Venezuela that doesn’t have the good of the Venezuelan people in mind,” he continued.
Trump maintained that U.S. forces would remain in Venezuela until a safe and judicious transition is secured. “We’re there now. And what people don’t understand…we’re going to stay until such time as the proper transition can take place,” he concluded, underlining the U.S. commitment to the future of Venezuela.
