Public Works Minister Announces WiFi Expansion for Passenger Vessels

News

Public Works Minister Juan Edghill announced on Sunday that all passenger vessels will be equipped with WiFi by 2026, significantly enhancing connectivity for passengers and crew alike.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, Edghill stated, “Early in the new year, at the latest, all of our boats and vessels will ensure that passengers and crew have access to WiFi, whether we use Starlink or WiFiGY.” This initiative aims to improve the travel experience for those who utilize river transport services.

Currently, the MV Ma Lisha is one of the few vessels already providing WiFi access. However, Edghill emphasized that the government’s goal is to extend this service to all vessels operating in the country.

River transport is crucial for many Guyanese, with several vessels moving people and goods primarily along the coastal strip. Thousands rely on these services daily, making enhanced connectivity an important step toward modernizing the travel experience.

The upcoming WiFi implementation is expected to greatly benefit commuters, allowing them to stay connected while traveling. Further details on the rollout are anticipated as the project moves forward.
