Rawle Lamaison, 46, has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter for the death of Dwayne Daniel Taitt, an employee of the Guyana Revenue Authority, bringing closure to a case that has been in the courts since 2021.

Lamaison was initially arraigned in the Demerara High Court on a murder charge but denied responsibility when he appeared before Justice Gino Persaud. However, he later returned to court and changed his plea, accepting guilt for the lesser offense of manslaughter.
The prosecution in the case is led by State Counsel Mtumika Lumumba, and sentencing has been scheduled for March 2026.
Dwayne Taitt, who was 24 years old, resided in a rented apartment owned by Lamaison’s mother on Middleton Street, Campbellville. The two men were familiar due to the tenancy arrangement.
According to police investigators, the deadly encounter occurred following a disagreement after Taitt was asked to leave the apartment. On the night of the incident, Taitt and his family were asleep when Lamaison reportedly visited the apartment, demanding that they vacate the premises.
When Taitt opened the door, he saw Lamaison holding a knife and immediately ran into the street opposite the building. Lamaison allegedly followed him and inflicted a single stab wound to Taitt’s chest before fleeing the scene with the weapon.
Taitt collapsed shortly after and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by his partner, with the help of a security guard. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.
With Lamaison now admitting to manslaughter, the court will proceed directly to sentencing. A decision on the penalty he will face is anticipated when the matter resumes in March.
