Region 7’s Work-Study Programme Not in Jeopardy

Local Government Ministry Refutes False Claims

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has firmly rejected recent false reports circulating on a social media page called ‘Credible Sources’. These reports allege that students in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region have been informed that there is no funding available for the annual 2025 Work-Study Programme. The Ministry categorically states that these claims are unfounded and lack any factual basis.

The Ministry confirms that the Work-Study Programme in Region 7 is proceeding as planned, with no cancellations or suspensions due to financial constraints. Preparations are actively underway to ensure that all eligible students, including those from Bartica Secondary, Three Miles Secondary, and D.C. Caesar Fox Secondary, will have the opportunity to gain valuable workplace exposure and professional development during the upcoming work-study period.

This initiative is a priority for the Government, aimed at bridging the gap between secondary education and the workforce, while equipping students with practical skills to enhance their future employability.

The Ministry expressed deep concern over the distress caused to students and parents by this irresponsible dissemination of misinformation. They urge the public to rely on official channels for accurate updates and to disregard speculative or anonymous reports.
