The charges stem from a February 11 incident in Kitty, where Ahmad is accused of jumping a stop sign, colliding with another vehicle, and then striking 63-year-old pedestrian Waveney Fernandes, who sustained severe injuries.

Ahmad was charged under:

Section 36(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, for dangerous driving.

Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicle Third Party Risk Act, Chapter 51:02, for driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

Before Magistrate Shivani Lalaram, the charges were read, and Ahmad pleaded not guilty to the dangerous driving charge, while admitting guilt regarding the uninsured motor vehicle charge.

The court granted Ahmad bail in the sum of $40,000 for the dangerous driving charge. He was fined $35,000 for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, with a three-week imprisonment term to be served if the fine is not paid.

The case concerning the dangerous driving charge has been adjourned to April 8, 2026.
