Ruling Anticipated in Extradition Proceedings Involving Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed

News

News Room Reports | Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman is set to deliver her ruling on a series of constitutional issues related to the high-profile extradition proceedings involving businessmen Nazar and Azruddin Mohamed. The ruling is scheduled for 11:00 hours on Wednesday.

The matter was initially called at 09:00 hours for the magistrate’s decision. However, before proceeding, she granted the defense an opportunity to respond to the submissions made earlier by the prosecution.

During the previous hearing, both parties presented extensive arguments regarding whether the constitutional questions raised should impede the extradition inquiry. The defense has urged the court to refer the matter to the High Court, contending that constitutional issues should be adjudicated by a higher authority.

Court watchers are keenly awaiting the magistrate’s ruling, as it may significantly impact both the extradition process and the broader legal landscape concerning constitutional rights in Guyana.
