Sean Kingston Mother Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Fraud Scheme

  • News

The Jamaica Observer Reports : Janice Turner, the 63-year-old mother of Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to five years in U.S. federal prison for her involvement in a million-dollar fraud scheme involving luxury goods. Reports indicate that both Turner and her son were found guilty on five counts of wire fraud after prosecutors uncovered a pattern of deception aimed at jewelers and high-end retailers. The pair was indicted in July 2024.

According to the evidence presented, Turner and Kingston falsely claimed to have made wire transfers for expensive items, including cars and jewelry, while the payments were never received. Authorities noted that they exploited their celebrity status to gain the trust of their victims.

Sean Kingston, known for his 2007 hit “Beautiful Girls,” did not attend his mother’s sentencing due to being placed on house arrest. He reportedly submitted a letter to the court requesting leniency for Turner, citing her age and health concerns. Following her prison term, Turner will undergo three years of supervised release and may face deportation to Jamaica, with a possibility of being barred from returning to the United States.

Sean Kingston’s sentencing is scheduled for August.
