News Source Reports : The Guyana Police Force is investigating the suspected theft of seven firearms and 68 rounds of ammunition from the arms room of the Cove and John Police Station on the East Coast of Demerara, with a Sergeant attached to the station currently in custody in connection with the matter.

The guns and ammunition were discovered missing last Wednesday during checks and a subsequent audit of exhibits and firearms lodged at the station. The missing weapons comprise four 9mm pistols and three .32 pistols.
According to the Force, the matter was reported through the established chain of command after preliminary enquiries confirmed the discrepancy. The Office of Professional Responsibility has since launched an investigation, with several statements obtained and relevant records extracted as part of the ongoing probe.
The Guyana Police Force said it is pursuing all necessary investigative and operational measures to account for and recover the missing firearms and ammunition, and assured the public that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
“The Guyana Police Force wishes to assure the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it warrants and that all appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law and established procedures,” the Force said in a statement.
