  • News

Lenox Shuman, former presidential candidate of the Liberty and Justice Party (LJP), officially endorsed the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) during the party’s 2025 elections campaign launch on Sunday. Shuman highlighted the PPP/C’s significant investments in indigenous communities and youth as key factors in his decision to join the party.

Speaking to supporters, Shuman commended the PPP/C for its dynamism, foresight, and vision. “You cannot follow people who are visionless,” he stated, reflecting on his previous experience serving on the Opposition benches from September 2020 to March 2023 under a coalition that included the LJP, A New and United Guyana (ANUG), and The New Movement (TNM).

Shuman emphasized the importance of recognizing investments made in indigenous communities. “When I look for my brothers and sisters in those communities, I don’t think I have given enough time to talk about the exciting things coming to those communities,” he remarked, indicating a focus on future developments.

He also praised the PPP/C’s provision of free tertiary education, which includes opportunities at the University of Guyana and various technical institutes. “Investment in free education is an investment in the future,” Shuman asserted.

“It is the investment in youths that brought me to this party,” he said, stressing the importance of safeguarding the future for the next generation. “We should never gamble with our future, we should never gamble with our children’s future.” He concluded by affirming that “only one camp looks out for our future, and that is the People’s Progressive Party.”

Shuman’s endorsement adds momentum to the PPP/C’s campaign as they prepare for the upcoming elections, reinforcing their commitment to development and inclusivity.
