Simona Broomes, the presidential candidate for the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP), is actively campaigning with a strong message: a vote for the ALP is a vote to end corruption and “party politics.” Broomes argues that such politics have marginalized citizens from development and investment opportunities based on perceived political affiliations.

In a recent interview with News Source, Broomes, a former member of the PNC Reform and Minister in the APNU+AFC administration, criticized the current regime for its practices regarding contract awards. She claimed that contracts are often given to affiliates of the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), with opportunities contingent on political alignment.
“For you to get a job, you have to be a member of this party; for a short-term contract, you must align with them,” Broomes emphasized. “We cannot afford to go on like that. When you get into office, you represent the entire country, including the opposition.”
Should the ALP secure victory in the upcoming elections, Broomes pledged to utilize the country’s resources for the development of all Guyanese, ensuring equal opportunities for everyone.
“It is not about compromise, money, or fame; it’s about bringing good change for the Guyanese people. Poverty is wicked, and I cannot stand its presence,” she stated passionately.
Broomes indicated that once the ALP’s list of candidates is approved by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), the party will present a comprehensive blueprint addressing various economic and social issues, including poverty, unemployment, the high cost of living, and crime.
“Poverty is significant, and the challenges faced by the elderly and persons with disabilities are pressing. Every Guyanese deserves the right to own a home. We don’t believe in children growing up on dams,” she added.
As the ALP prepares for Nomination Day, Broomes and her team have been visiting various regions to engage with potential candidates and voters. Many citizens have expressed concerns about the rising cost of living and the lack of adequate support from the government.
Broomes aims to resonate with these concerns, promising a shift towards inclusive governance and a commitment to improving the lives of all Guyanese.
