Single Mother of Four in Georgetown Desperately Seeks Help Appeals to Mr. Mohamed’s and Government

News

A young Berbice woman, now stranded in Georgetown with four small children and facing eviction, is making a heartfelt public appeal for urgent assistance with food, diapers, and shelter.

Alicia Nero, a single mother, says she is at her breaking point. With children aged ten years, seven years, six years, and a ten-month-old infant still exclusively breastfeeding, Nero says she is unable to work and has no family support network to fall back on.

Originally from Berbice, Nero said she relocated to Georgetown in search of safety and stability, but has struggled to find anyone willing to accommodate her and her young children. To make matters worse, she has been given two months to vacate her current place of stay, leaving her with no clear path forward.

“I reached out to several persons for help but so far no solution,” she said, adding that the father of her youngest child provides no financial support whatsoever.

Nero says that because of her vulnerable situation, she feels she is being taken advantage of with those she has turned to for help failing to provide any meaningful assistance or solution.

Nero is specifically appealing to philanthropist Mr. Mohamed’s and the Government of Guyana for urgent intervention. She is in need of food items, pampers for her infant, and most critically, a permanent place to stay where she and her children can feel safe and secure.

Her story speaks to the broader challenges faced by vulnerable single mothers in Guyana women who, without a support system, often find themselves with nowhere to turn.
