The Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) conducted a coordinated intelligence-led operation on Tuesday at various locations in Bartica, resulting in significant seizures of cash and gold believed to be linked to undeclared gold purchases.

The operation led to the confiscation of over $32 million in cash and more than $100 million in gold. Three individuals were arrested during this initiative: Eon Ricardo Ferrier, also known as ‘Blacks,’ Munesh Chatterpaul, and Latchman Malloo. All three are currently cooperating with ongoing investigations related to gold smuggling and money laundering.
SOCU reported that the individuals involved have been under surveillance for an extended period, with support from both local and international law enforcement partners. They are suspected of having extensive connections in illicit gold trading, reportedly linked to financiers Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed.
“This action is part of a comprehensive national strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in gold smuggling and organized crime in Guyana,” SOCU stated in its announcement.
