Employees of the current Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge will be absorbed by the Ministry of Public Works upon the completion of the new US$35 million Mackenzie-Wismar bridge, expected to be operational by June 2026.

During a meeting held at Watooka Lodge on Thursday, Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill informed staff that the ministry aims to align their current roles with the new positions associated with the upcoming bridge. He encouraged employees not to panic, emphasizing the government’s commitment to hiring and retaining workers rather than downsizing.
Minister Edghill reassured current bridge staff that transferring to the ministry would not result in any loss of salary or benefits: “We’ve got to look at where you’re best suited so that you’ll be able to get service, with no loss of salary or benefits,” he stated.
Current bridge staff expressed optimism about the transition. Aalyiah, one of the employees, mentioned her belief that the move would facilitate a smoother and more efficient workflow. Another staff member, Abigail, expressed excitement about her upcoming transfer once the new bridge is commissioned.
Minister Edghill also urged staff members to share information about job openings that better align with their qualifications to ensure a successful transition.
