Starting Point Of Epa’s Green Walk Is In A Distressing State Of Plastic Pollution

The theme for the EPA’s “Green Walk” on Sunday, June 1, is “Ending Plastic Pollution,” an important event leading up to World Environment Day on June 5. However, just twelve hours before the event, the starting point is in a distressing state of plastic pollution. This was revealed by Seawalls and Beyond Volunteers on facebook. In a Social Media Post they Wrote ” ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ is the theme for the EPA’s ‘Green Walk’ on Sunday June 1, a big event ahead of World Environment Day (June 5). Unfortunately, the starting point of the Walk is in a horrible state of plastic pollution itself, just twelve hours before the event. Should the event have been a cleanup instead of a walk around the town? Where are the sanitation contractors to clear the overflowing receptacles at the Kingston Seawall? Why haven’t the laws against littering been enforced? The police headquarters and a police outpost with patrols and live feeds of the many cctv cameras are right there too! The seawall there has been in this state for quite a while yet again. Why are things falling apart again at Kingston even after a billion dollars plus upgrade? Unacceptable! ”

Questions arise: Should this event have been a cleanup instead of just a walk around the town? Where are the sanitation contractors to clear the overflowing receptacles at the Kingston Seawall? Why has there been a lack of enforcement of littering laws?
The presence of police headquarters and a police outpost, complete with patrols and live feeds from numerous CCTV cameras, raises further concerns. The seawall has been in this condition for quite some time, despite a significant upgrade costing over a billion dollars.
This situation is unacceptable. It highlights the ongoing neglect and the urgent need for effective action to address littering and pollution in our community.
