I mourn with Linden on the death of Jenel Pollydore, a beloved mother and school teacher. My heart is heavy reflecting on the senseless death of Jenel, a 26-year-old mother of three whose life was brutally cut short by a selfish act of domestic violence, leaving behind three young children and a grieving family.

I had the privilege of meeting Jenel two years ago at a Christmas drive for children in Watooka. She was kind, warm, and full of joy—the kind of person who lit up a room with her presence. You could see how deeply she loved her students and her community. I remember her smile. I remember her spirit.
No woman should have to live in fear. No child should be forced to grow up without their mother. Jenel deserved to grow old, to raise her children, and to live a life of peace and dignity.
This horrific incident is yet another reminder of the devastating impact of domestic abuse in our society. Jenel, like many other women, sought to escape a violent relationship; she even obtained a restraining order. Yet, her efforts to protect herself and her children were tragically undermined, highlighting critical gaps in the system that should safeguard our citizens.
The WIN party stands firmly with Jenel’s family and all victims of domestic violence. We denounce the abhorrent act that terminated Jenel’s life in the strongest terms and call for immediate justice for Shaka Phillips, the perpetrator. We call upon the authorities to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to ensure he faces the full force of the law.
Jenel’s tragedy must galvanize action. We must confront the sources of domestic violence, address systemic shortcomings in protective services, and show that protective orders are more than just “pieces of paper.” We need to expand proper supports for victims, ramp up awareness campaigns, and create judicial systems that prioritize the safety and well-being of those at risk.
The WIN team is committed to working tirelessly to create a society where every individual, especially women and children, can live free from fear and violence. We owe it to Jenel, to Kenesha, to Shameeza, and to all victims to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again. We must end the scourge of domestic violence that permeates our nation.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jenel’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
