Suspect Arrested in Connection with Murder at Barakat Landing

Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Matthew Ramlichan, who was fatally stabbed at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River, on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Ramlichan, a pork-knocker hailing from the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, succumbed to his injuries following the violent incident. After gathering information and conducting investigations, police acted on leads and proceeded to Barakat Backdam on Friday at approximately 08:30 hrs.

At the scene, officers apprehended a 38-year-old male gold miner from Half Mile, Wismar, Linden. He was informed of the allegations against him, cautioned, and subsequently arrested.

In addition to the primary suspect, two Venezuelan nationals, aged 37 and 27, who were present at the location during the incident, have also been taken into custody.

All three individuals are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations into the matter. Authorities have confirmed that efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding Ramlichan’s death are continuing. Further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
