The fatal accident occurred at approximately 21:30 hours along a section of the roadway known for a right-hand bend. Mal was driving motor car HD 8678, which is owned by Yonette Sargeant of Pomona.

According to reports, the vehicle was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane when the driver allegedly lost control. The car veered off the roadway and collided with a lamp post before striking a nearby signboard and eventually crashing into a tree.

Public-spirited residents rushed to the scene and assisted in removing the injured driver from the wreckage. Mal was subsequently transported to the Suddie Public Hospital for medical attention.

However, he was pronounced dead at approximately 22:35 hours while receiving treatment at the medical facility.

Police who visited the scene have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Mal’s body was identified by his wife, Sherika Mal, and has been taken to the Suddie Public Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The death adds to Guyana’s troubling road fatality statistics, which have increased significantly this year compared to the same period in 2025.
