The Fight for Justice in Sexual Assault Cases by Ronald J. Daniels

Statement by Ronald J. Daniels : There is a video circulating on social media capturing what appears to be a young Amerindian girl being sexually violated in a most vulgar and public manner. No woman or girl should be violated sexually or otherwise. Period! I condemn this in the strongest terms. I urge that the perpetrator be brought to justice, along with the owner of the establishment and those who encouraged this insensitive and degrading violation.

Such violations against girls, women, and even boys are not uncommon in our society. Technology and social media have unfortunately amplified these abuses. It has become commonplace to witness girls and women being inappropriately touched in bars, clubs, and restaurants, often with little protection from their employers, who use them as ‘eye candy’ to attract male patrons. Many are even instructed to dress in ways that entice men, reducing them to mere objects.

While I advocate for a woman’s right to dress as she pleases without fear of violation, it is essential to acknowledge the deliberate sexualization of women and girls as a business strategy that caters to the untamed appetites of men.

Many of these individuals come from vulnerable, under-resourced communities—those often neglected in political discourse. They face circumstances that dehumanize them, where their survival often comes at the expense of their integrity. Many young girls dread working in bars or supermarkets, feeling dehumanized and trapped in a cycle of exploitation.

Our society perpetuates a culture that glorifies alcohol consumption, drug use, and lewd music that objectifies women. We lock down stadiums for artists who impart no positive values to our youth, while the government appears complicit in ignoring the sources of drugs and violence affecting our communities.

We elevate individuals to positions of power who openly solicit sex from young boys and restore to political office those with a history of violating vulnerable girls. This moral decay is evident when even young women stand by, reveling in the sexual violation of their peers.

It is our collective responsibility to instill upright values in ourselves and our children, despite our circumstances. Those in government must take on the greater responsibility of ensuring our communities are safe, well-resourced, and conducive to growth.
