Three Essequibo Coast Motorists Face Drink-Driving Charges at Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court

Three separate drink-driving cases were heard at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before His Worship Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, resulting in two guilty pleas and fines, and one not guilty plea with the matter adjourned for trial.

Godwin Shepherd — Guilty, Fined $200,000

Godwin Shepherd, 49, a construction worker of Lot 10 Danielstown, Essequibo Coast, was charged with driving whilst his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit. The offence occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Windsor Castle Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

Shepherd appeared before the court on Thursday, May 21, 2026, where he pleaded guilty. He was fined $200,000 or, in default, six months imprisonment.

Sasenarine Chandrika — Guilty, Fined $200,000

Sasenarine Chandrika, 52, a carpenter of Lot 5 Windsor Castle, Essequibo Coast, faced the same charge of driving with a breath alcohol level exceeding the prescribed limit. His offence also occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Henrietta Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

Chandrika appeared before the court on May 21, 2026, pleaded guilty, and was similarly fined $200,000 or six months imprisonment in default.

Andrea Pryce — Not Guilty, Case Adjourned to September

Andrea Pryce, 26, a teacher of Charity Back Street, Essequibo Coast, was charged with refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test — an offence that occurred on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Richmond Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

The matter was heard on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Pryce pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000. The case was adjourned to September 9, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

All three charges were laid under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, as amended by the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 17 of 2022.
