Three Men Ordered to Stand Trial for Murder of Pensioner

Three men have been ordered to stand trial in the Berbice High Court for the murder of 82-year-old Chandarie Budhoo. Dhannyram Ramdhanny, 35, Kumar Bhagwandin, 29, and Narvindra Chillu, 25, all from Region Six, appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon on Monday, where a jury of twelve members was selected to review the evidence in the case.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, which allege that they killed Budhoo during a robbery at her home in Lot 83 Tain Settlement, Corentyne Berbice, between June 16 and 17, 2020.

he trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 8, and is expected to include testimony from eight police officers and three residents who are witnesses to the events surrounding the case.

Cicela Corbin is representing the state, while Attorney Kevin Morgan is defending the accused individuals. Justice Kissoon indicated that the trial is anticipated to be brief, with a decision expected to follow shortly after the evidence is presented.
